On November 9, 2025, China's Ministry of Commerce announced the suspension of the prohibitive clauses from the original announcement (2024 No. 46) regarding the export of gallium, germanium, antimony, and superhard materials to the United States. This suspension takes effect from November 9, 2025, and will last until November 27, 2026. However, the export ban and licensing system for military end-users or military purposes remain in place. This policy adjustment temporarily alleviates export risks at resource nodes.

China's temporary suspension of export controls on gallium has eased short-term supply risks for this critical raw material, yet its ripple effects continue to weigh on MediaTek’s supply chain stability. Gallium is essential for producing gallium arsenide wafers, which are widely used in high-frequency radio frequency (RF) front-end components. These components are integrated into RF modules and ultimately embedded in smartphone application processors—the core of MediaTek’s product portfolio. Although the export restrictions are paused until November 2026, ongoing policy uncertainty compels MediaTek and its upstream suppliers to maintain elevated inventory levels or seek alternative materials, driving up procurement and manufacturing costs. Moreover, a potential reinstatement of controls could again constrain gallium arsenide wafer availability, delaying RF module deliveries and disrupting MediaTek’s production planning for premium 5G chips and its ability to fulfill customer orders. In the fiercely competitive mobile chip market, such supply chain volatility may erode its cost advantage and delivery reliability, posing risks to margins and market share.
